Justin Ross Harris has been convicted of malice murder and other charges after he left his 22-month-old son, Cooper in a hot car for seven hours to die.

The 36-year-old father was convicted by a jury last month and a judge has now sentenced him to serve life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Harris told police at the time of the horrific incident that he had forgotten to drop the toddler off at daycare that morning and went to work forgetting his son was in the car.

However, prosecutors argued that Harris was unhappy in his marriage and wanted to escape his family life.

Judge Mary Staley Clark spoke of comments Harris had made to police and his wife on  the day his son tragically died about wanting to make sure nobody else would ever leave a child in a hot car again.

“Perhaps not the way you intended, you in fact have accomplished that goal,” she said.
