As erratic as our weather is, there is a particular trend we have picked up on over the past number of years: beautiful sunshine usually follows our dismal summer, once the kids head back to school.

This is reported to be the case once again this year, with meteorologists claiming that we can look forward to an Indian summer starting from next week.

According to reports, our (excuse for a) summer will end with one final downpour next Monday, but from then on high pressure will bring settled, sunny weather to our shores.

Sharing the uplifting news last night, Met Éireann forecaster Siobhan Ryan predicted next week’s weather to be “dry, settled and calm, with little or no wind.”

This will come as welcome news to us all, given just how wet August has been. Indeed, Met Éireann climatologist Aidan Murphy added that this summer was slightly worse than what we’re used to.

“It is a slightly below average Irish summer in Dublin, and worse than that outside Dublin,” he told The Irish Times.

While this news will no doubt be devastating for the little ones, heading off to school in their thick-knit jumpers, some games in the sun will provide the perfect after-school wind-down.
