Minibus carrying 14 children collides with car in Longford town

​Gardaí are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic accident in Co. Longford which left one person dead and others, including children, injured last night.

An investigation into the incident which occurred at 11.10 pm on the main Dublin to Longford Road has been launched and witnesses have been asked to come forward.

The driver of the vehicle which collided with a minibus carrying 14 children outside Longford town died at the scene of the collision in Corboy last night.

The driver of the car was transferred to Mullingar Hospital while paramedics and ambulance crew treated the adults and children who had been travelling on the minibus.

The driver of the minibus was brought to Mullingar Hospital where his injuries are described as non-life-threatening.

The road is currently closed pending further investigation.
