People go through years of rigorous training to qualify as gardaí and take up the duty of serving their community, but one little boy’s incredible courage has seen him honoured with the title at the tender age of three!

Monaghan boy Ceejay McArdle has made headlines this week by becoming the youngest garda recruit in the country.

The three-year-old, from Castleblayney, is currently battling leukaemia Reg C, and is scheduled to receive treatment until January 2018. In recognition of Ceejay’s amazing bravery and determination, local gardaí recently paid tribute to him by making him an honorary garda for the day.

Sergeant Ceejay’s special day began with a visit to Garda HQ in Phoenix Park, where he received a well-deserved bravery award. Accompanied by Gardas Alan Keane, Derek Rochford and Frances Merrick, Ceejay went on to direct traffic, look after the horses, and even play alongside the famous Garda Band – check him out in action in the video below!

The experience was topped off with a tour of duty around Ceejay’s own local garda station in Castleblayney.

What a lovely way to honour Ceejay. We’re sending him love and best wishes on the road to recovery.
