By purchasing Easter eggs with money seized from organised crime, police in Manchester have found a way to bring a little happiness into the lives of children affected by criminality.

Officers in Trafford made good use of cash seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act and went on an Easter egg shopping spree in an effort to bring a little hope to communities blighted by the actions of criminal gangs.

Commenting on the heartwarming gesture, Superintendent Jim Liggett from Greater Manchester Police's Trafford Division said: 'Police in Trafford regularly seize cash and assets from organised crime groups who cause nothing but misery within our communities."

Explaining that the force generally use the funds to continue their fight against crime, he continued: "We use some of the funds to tackle local crime fighting priorities for the benefit of the community, as well as for local community projects and engagements."

However, given the special weekend that's in it, the force decided to focus their efforts on the youngsters in the community, explaining: "This weekend we have decided to use a small amount of this cash to bring happiness to young children within the community who have been affected by some form of criminality."

"I hope this small gesture will bring some happiness to the children and show the public that they remain at the heart of everything we do," he concluded.

What a wonderful way to celebrate Easter weekend!
