In the most traumatic moments of our lives, we look to those around us for help and support. Their actions can prove make or break, and this story demonstrates that in the most touching way.

A Melbourne mum has appealed to the public to help her locate the ‘guardian angel’ who came to her rescue when she gave birth prematurely after a traumatic road accident.

Three years ago, Elyse Pratt was driving at an intersection when her car was struck by a driver who had gone through a red light.

The crash was so serious that Elyse had to be cut from her car, and at 28 weeks pregnant she was rushed to hospital for an emergency Caesarean-section.

Her son, Levi, was taken to intensive care, and he remained in hospital for three months for lung treatment. Elyse herself suffered fractures to her spine and pelvis, and has lived with nerve damage ever since.

After the horrific crash occurred, Elyse was helped by an unidentified woman, who called police and the emergency services to the scene; Elyse, a mother-of-two, has spent the past three years looking for that woman.

Speaking to local media, Elyse said: “She may not have felt she did much by holding my hand and being there for me, but more than three years have passed and it still brings me to tears.”

“She was there for me when I needed her,” she added, admitting that she would “probably cry and give her a big hug” if she met her.

The story is already making its way around the world via social media, so let’s hope that Elyse is able to find her heroic stranger.
