A woman has been charged with child neglect after a shocking incident in a bar in Florida over the weekend.
Ashton Krauss sparked concern after entering the Banana Boat Lounge and Restaurant on Sunday evening, placing her child in a highchair and proceeding to leave the infant alone while she went to get a drink and dance.
Fellow patrons grew worried when the child became distressed, crying in the highchair, and complained to 28-year-old Krauss, who then picked up her child and fell over with the baby still in her arms. The child is said to have fallen on top of Krauss and did not sustain any injuries.
An eye witness described the shocking scene to the Sun-Sentinel: “Customers and staff rushed in to try and help the woman and child but that caused Krauss to get angry.”
Police were called to the scene and described Krauss as being ‘violent and belligerent’, and also found alcohol in her vehicle and handbag.
Krauss was arrested on charges of child neglect and disorderly conduct, and is currently being held on bail for $3,000.
Krauss’ uncle is reported to have custody of the child.
