Accidents can happen in the blink of an eye where babies are concerned, which is why it is so important to arm yourself with the best training and education possible.

This is the call of British mum-of-two Victoria Dawson, whose four-week-old baby son Eddie stopped breathing after choking on her breastmilk.

Born eight weeks early, Eddie had just had his feeding tube removed when the incident occurred. Mum Victoria was nursing happily when she suddenly felt her son’s body go limp. Eddie’s skin then turned grey, and he stopped breathing.

Nurse Victoria told the Mirror Online this week that her husband called the emergency services while she used the CPR techniques she had learned as part of her job.

After giving the tot “some gentle backslaps” and “rescue breaths”, she and partner Alex were advised to put Eddie on the floor and do more CPR. The tot began to breathe again after a few compressions, and the paramedics arrived soon after to take over.

Eddie was rushed to hospital where he was given oxygen, and the little one is now doing well.

Speaking to The Mirror, Victoria insists that her CPR skills saved her son’s life, and now she is calling on parents everywhere to learn essential first aid techniques for similar emergencies.

"We really thought in that moment we had lost him, but luckily my instincts kicked in,” she said.
