Anyone reading this will know that when it comes to needing the toilet – where it's you or your child – you can only wait so long until an accident occurs, and this is something that one family learned the hard way this week.

Beverly O’Neill, from Scotland, has slammed the staff of a Glasgow pharmacy after they refused to let her daughter use their facilities, causing the three-year-old to wet herself.

Little Lucia had a suspected urinary tract infection and was waiting on a prescription with her mother when the incident occurred. With the pair made to wait 25 minutes for their order, and Lucia having drunk a lot of water to help flush out her system, it wasn’t long before the tot needed to use the loo.

However, when Beverly asked staff if her daughter could use their toilet, they refused. Although Beverly tried to locate another toilet nearby, by the time she and Lucia returned the little girl had wet herself.

Going public with her story, Beverly told local media: “I was totally appalled…When we got to the chemist, I told the staff that she was waiting for her prescription for a urine infection and that she was desperate for the toilet.”

She added that staff told her there were ‘things’ around the toilet and that they would have to go elsewhere.

Since the incident entered the public forum, pharmacy management has apologised in a statement.

“Due to toilets within our pharmacies being generally located behind the dispensaries where confidential patient material and controlled drugs are stored, access to the public is prohibited. On this occasion we recognise that a member of the pharmacy team could have accompanied the customer and her child to the bathroom and we apologise for any inconvenience caused,” the statement read.
