We are sure you will agree that Christmas is the most expensive time of the year for a parent, but one British mum may have just unlocked the secret to getting by on a shoestring budget.
Mum-of-one Jennifer Drew has this week claimed to have completed her entire Christmas shop – including food, presents and decorations – for just under a fiver.
Jennifer told The Mirror that through collecting coupons and newspaper offers, and availing of money-back promotions, she was able to get £574 worth of goods for just £4.05. Her haul included Christmas dinner, her Christmas tree, presents, cards, decorations and crackers.
“I've had a free Christmas tree and I won't have to pay a penny for serving up a traditional Christmas dinner – it's a massive help, particularly with all the savings on presents as well,” Jennifer told the newspaper.
Jennifer’s list of bargains is impressive – not only did she score six free turkeys (she will be giving five away to loved ones), but she also managed to get a Kindle Fire for free by using Amazon cashback vouchers.
The shopping-savvy mother has encouraged others to get in on the coupon action, saying that a little bit of planning can make all the difference.
"Once you get to grips with the process, it's very simple. What people don't realise is that a bit of research can save hundreds of pounds,” she added.
Well, we know what our new year’s resolution is – consider us couponing-converts!
