The importance of good car seat safety is vital information for every parent, which is why the following safety video has garnered so many views from around the world this week.

A video has been created to demonstrate the danger of strapping a child into a car seat while they are wearing a thick winter coat.

The important nugget of advice was shared via a demonstration video by Good Egg Safety, a company which issues advice about car seat safety for children.

The central message of this video is, when you strap your child into the car seat while they are wearing coat, you are leaving a dangerously large gap between the restraint and their body. This doesn’t offer the appropriate level of protection and can leave the child open to serious injury where an accident occurs.

The mum in the video demonstrates her point by strapping the child into the seat while she is wearing a coat – when she yanks at the harness, it seems perfectly secure. However, when she takes the child’s coat off and leaves the straps as they were, you can see that there is a significant gap between it and the child’s body.

Don’t risk your child’s safety this winter; wait until you have arrived at your destination to put their coat on. Check out the video below.
