Mums everywhere will know that when your baby gets hungry, you pretty much have to drop everything to make sure that their little tummies are nourished – well, within reason.

A mum in the States has made headlines today for breastfeeding her baby while driving her car.

According to reports, the 44-year-old had her baby on her lap and was nursing her as she drove through traffic in her native Washington.

Needless to say, the scene alarmed a member of the public who witnessed the scene, and they contacted local police to report the incident.

ABC 13 News reports that State Trooper Rocky Oliphant arrived on the scene to perform a welfare check on the woman’s vehicle, and the mother admitted to breastfeeding while driving.

Adding that it wasn't the first time that she had done so, the mum said that she took the risk as a last resort for her ‘fussy’ baby.

The woman was issued with a $136 fine for driving with an unrestrained child, with Trooper Oliphant going on to give her a serious lecture on why her actions were so dangerous.

“Her job is to keep the child safe, rather than making sure he’s happy while she’s driving down the road,” he said.

Thank heavens they weren’t involved in an accident while the nursing was taking place. Hopefully this will serve as a warning to mothers everywhere.
