A woman, who fell pregnant after a one-night encounter in a Dublin nightclub, has launched a nationwide appeal to locate the father of her 11-year-old son.

Writing an anonymous letter to a national radio station, she explained the situation, saying: "I was in Dublin on Friday August 2, 2003 when Laois was playing Armagh on the Saturday. Myself and my friends went out on the Friday night and I met someone in Coppers."

According to the woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, she and the man spent the night at the Bewley's Hotel in Ballsbridge and she simply wants to inform him that she conceived a child following their evening together.

Reluctant to put pressure on her child's father, she goes on to say: "I want nothing from him, he has his own life but I just wanted to let him know. We all do stupid things but I have no regrets."

After 12 years, the woman's memory is understandably hazy, but revealing the few details which she recalls, she said: "We weren’t too drunk but this happened twelve years ago so I don’t have a great memory of everything. I think this guy’s name was Sean and he was from Armagh and he may have had an earring."

Explaining her motivation for coming forward and launching the appeal, the child's mum told radio host, Ryan Tubridy: "Everyone does these kinds of things when they are young and this has been on my mind for years wondering what I could do to find this person without a second name. I thought I would give your show a try."

Paying tribute to her 'wonderful' son and current partner, she insists she bears no ill will, assuring listeners: "My son is 11 and he has brilliant stepdad now and everything is great."

While acknowledging her search may be unlikely to yield results, the mum felt she had nothing to lose by going public with her story.

We wish her all the best with her search.
