Whether it’s attracting negative comments over a photo or a message, we have seen the kind of damage that social media posts can do, and one mum learned this the hard way this week.

Single mum Kaitlyn Wells’ story has gone viral after she lost her day care job on her very first day, thanks to an ill-advised Facebook post.

The 27-year-old had been jobless for a while, but she wasn’t exactly thrilled with the field she was put into for her latest role.

The mum took to Facebook to vent her frustrations, writing: “I start my new job today, but I absolutely hate working at day care.”

We have all heard the warnings that ‘Big Brother’ is always watching, and unfortunately for Kaitlyn, this was exactly the case. It didn’t take long for her employers to stumble upon the posting, and she was swiftly sacked from her position.

Her story went viral after she returned to her Facebook page to share her regret and shame over the original post.

“Oh man I made a big mistake. I’m so sad. I feel like a failure here, looking at my daughter crying because I’m afraid that I’m not going to be able to find a job because of my own stupidity,” she wrote.

Commenting on the incident to local media, she added: “It really was a big mistake. I don’t hate children. I have my own…I love her.”

As if we needed reminding, this story underlines why you should always think through every word you put out there on social media.
