A mother of triplets has died just days after spending at first Christmas at home with her 'miracle' babies.

Police say the death of 39-year-old Rachel Park is "unexplained but not suspicious".

Sisters Poppie, Mollie and Evelyn were born 13-weeks prematurely in March and spent much of their early lives in hospital in Newcastle and Whitehaven.

Understandably, her husband, Steven, is said to be utterly heartbroken. He is being comforted at the family home in Bransty, Whitehaven - the same place where Rachel passed away on Tuesday.

Friends have now launched a Facebook appeal to help Steven care for the tiny youngsters - who were described by their parents as 'miracles' when told by doctors that they would be allowed to finally leave hospital in time for Christmas.

Poppie, Mollie and Evelyn in total weighed just 5lb 2oz when they were born and came at the end of four rounds of IVF treatment.

Steven and Rachel had married in 2009 and tried for six years to start their family.
