With the Olympics now in full swing and dozens of medals already awarded, many athletes are celebrating as their childhood dreams have been coming true.

One of those athletes is Team USA swimmer, Ryan Murphy who has been dreaming of his moment at the Olympic Games since he was eight years old.

And to prove just that his mother shared a picture from a book that Ryan wrote 13 years ago called “My Swimming Life”.

In the book Ryan shared his ambitious list of goals which seemed like just dreams at the time.

He wrote: “I hope my swimming life continues, and I become an Olympian when I grow up. I hope I will break world records. I want to be the best swimmer in the world.”

And while he may not have broken world records in Rio, we think Ryan will be pretty happy with his accomplishments.

Ryan stepped up to the podium last night after winning gold in the 100-metre backstroke adding to USA’s winning streak in that event.

The world record wasn’t far from sight either as Ryan was just three hundredths of a second shy of the time set in 2009.

Ryan’s book will surely now take pride of place alongside a picture of him on top of the Olympic podium on his parent’s mantle.
