An incredibly courageous mum-of-two from Dublin has gone viral this week after she made the brave decision to open up about her tumultuous family life.

By sharing a heartwrenching video of herself on Facebook, 26-year-old Emma Murphy raised awareness of the insidious nature of domestic violence and appealed to women to remove themselves from any situation which leaves them vulnerable, frightened or injured.

With considerable poise, Emma relayed the events of the past three and a half years of her life and gave a shocking insight into the ways in which violence in the home can manifest and soon become the norm.

The video, which is a testament to Emma’s strength, courage and compassion for others, has been shared thousands of times on Facebook and acted as a platform from which others could share their own experience of domestic abuse.

Responding to the young mum’s story, one Facebook user wrote: “I hate this video for all the right reasons. I hate it because you have needed to post this video. I hate it because of what happened to you and I hate it because you're not the only one who has suffered like this!”

Take a moment to listen to Emma’s story and remember that no one should suffer in silence.
