Families come in all shapes and sizes, which is why eating out at a restaurant and using its facilities is a unique experience for each person who comes through the doors. A pizza shop in US has this week come in for major praise for honouring this, and all in the simple form of a sign on their toilet doors.
The toilets in a Pure Pizza shop in North Carolina are unisex, something which owner Juli Ghazi decided to do for a number of reasons, as outlined in the sign below. It reads:
“We have a unisex bathroom because sometimes gender-specific toilets put others into uncomfortable situations. And since we have a lot of our friends coming to see us, we wanted to provide a place for our friends who are:
- Single dads with daughters
- Single mums with sons
- Parents with disabled children
- Those in the LGBTQ community
- Adults with aging parents who may be mentally/physically disabled
Thank you for helping us to provide a safe environment for everyone.”
The sign came to the attention of the Facebook community after a patron, Larken Egleston, posted a snapshot of it to his own account, praising the staff and management for their “good work”.
A follow-up interview with owner Ghazi revealed, however, that the sign has been prompting overwhelming reactions for a long time now.
She told WCNC News: “About a month ago, a mum who has a disabled teenage son came in for lunch; she teared up when she saw that we offered a unisex bathroom and I had this posted.”
Pure Pizza are clearly setting the example with this move – well done to them.
