The mother of one particular little girl has taken to Facebook to explain her daughter's attitude towards a homeless man she came across after attending a Remembrance Day Parade at the Portsmouth Guildhall.

Upon realising her little girl's actions were going viral on Facebook, Rhoda Kilpatrick took to social media to explain the incident which occurred on Sunday.

Revealing that her child was determined to help a vulnerable man she saw sitting on the street, Rhoda wrote: "I didn't like the idea of giving him money as I know some (NOT ALL) use the money on 'naughty things' as I put it to my daughter."

Undeterred, four-year-old Lola was adamant that some gesture should be made, with Rhoda continuing: "She was insistent on giving him something 'warm from the rain' so spent her pocket money on a sausage roll for him."

The gesture was documented on the Spotted in Portsmouth Facebook page by a member of the public who witnessed the exchange and wrote: "This afternoon a homeless man was sat outside the nail shop in Commercial Road."

Setting the scene for Facebook users, she continued: "I had just come out from having my nails done when I turned around and saw a girl no older than seven with her mum. The mum spoke to the man as the little girl was full of nerves, 'my daughter saw you had no home and spent all her pocket money on buying you food."

Explaining the impact Lola's gesture had on the homeless man, the Facebook user continued: "The man was so grateful he cried and was so thankful. This was a beautiful thing that actually made my day and made me have faith in the future generations."

After thousands of people liked the original post, Rhoda identified herself as the mum of that kind and caring child, writing: "I'm incredibly proud of my little girl."

Well done Lola!
