It’s a story that would shock anyone to their very core, and only those who have experienced what this woman went through could identify with what she is feeling.

However, Michelle Wilkins has surprised everyone with her message to the woman who cut her unborn child from her womb.

Appearing on Dr Phil, the Colorado woman admitted that she feels ‘compassion’ for Dynel Lane, the woman who carried out the horrific attack.

Lane allegedly placed a false ad for maternity clothes on advertising site Craigslist, and lured Wilkins to her home under the pretence of a sale. Lane is then said to have stabbed Wilkins, before cutting her child from her womb and driving to a nearby hospital with the baby.

While Wilkins was left injured in the basement, Lane informed hospital staff that she had suffered a miscarriage. The child was pronounced dead, and police went on to arrest Lane.

Speaking out bravely about her ordeal, Wilkins said: “I haven’t lost faith in humanity. For this one person who caused me pain, there are thousands of people who have written letters or made donations to pay for expenses.”

While she is physically still able to have children, Wilkins admits that her trauma is still too raw to consider starting a family any time soon.

"I'm still grieving over the loss of one child. I can't imagine what the journey of having a second child would be like,” she said.

Our hearts go out to her and her family.
