When it comes to car seat safety, it is so important to get the basics right, which one mum has proven with a powerful social media post this week.

Mum Heather Starr took to her Facebook page to share a photo of a friend’s child after a car accident. Showing a close-up of the little girl’s bruising, Heather – who describes herself as “super-passionate about proper car seat safety” – explains how the mum in question potentially saved her little one’s life.

Heather explains how the bruising shows where the five-point harness was positioned – correctly – on the child’s chest.

“Clearly, there was some force to that accident. Had the clip been placed lower, she likely would have had organ damage and internal bleeding. Had it been placed higher, she could have been asphyxiated. (The ER doctor she saw confirmed these facts as well),” wrote Heather.

As you all know, I am super passionate about proper car seat safety. Here's an example of why. This is a 3 year old...

In an interview with Yahoo! Parenting after the post went viral, Heather explained how the child’s mother – who wished to remain anonymous – had only instructed her partner on the correct placing of the safety clasp the week before the accident.

Heather has done a wonderful thing by sharing this post, and it may well save lives all over the world.
