It’s truly wonderful to see women lifting other women up, but for all the stories of kindness that we hear, there is always a negative. Mum Dianne Hoffmeyer learned this the hard way recently.

The 41-year-old, who was previously diagnosed with congestive heart failure, was queuing in a coffee shop with her little girl when she was cruelly body-shamed by two other women.

Taking to Facebook to share her experience, Dianne said: “I could hear you. I could hear the hurtful things you said about me. Sorry that my hair needs to be re-coloured and the roots bothered you, but I have children that need to be taken care of.”

Referring to the women as ‘mean’ and ‘bitter’, she added: “You both were right when you said I didn’t need the small box of Tim Bits because I already looked…like a whale. Just so you know, they were not for me, but for my sick 22-month-old daughter who has kept me up all night crying and teething…You both made me cry.”

Dianne went on to reveal that rather than hitting back at the women or stooping to their level, she actually paid for the coffee. And why did she act so generously to people who had been so cruel? For the sake of her daughter.

“My two-year-old daughter is a mini-me and she mimics everything I do. I wanted to do the right thing so when she’s old enough she’ll know the right thing to do,” Dianne told local media.

While Dianne was long gone by the time the women had any knowledge of her gesture, the mum has since admitted that she has been left “speechless” by the overwhelming kindness of strangers.

We can bet that those two women have seen Dianne’s viral post and feel very ashamed.
