When confronted with some of our biggest fears, most of us will hold our hands up and admit to acting a little irrationally – but this shocking story just takes matters to a whole new level.

Police in the States are investigating the case of a nine-year-old boy who was forced to take the wheel after his mother jumped out of their car while it was still running.

What could have been so important/ shocking/ horrifying that it justified leaving your child alone in a running car, you ask? A spider, apparently.

According to reports, Angela Kipp was backing out of her driveway, with her nine-year-old son in the backseat, when she noticed a spider on her shoulder. In a panic, the woman screamed and leapt from the car, leaving her poor son behind.

The little boy is said to have climbed into the front seat in a bid to hit the brakes, but he accidentally set his foot to the accelerator. The car then reversed backwards into a passing school bus.

Thankfully, there were no passengers on the bus, and the driver was not hurt, but the nine-year-old boy was reportedly brought to hospital for treatment for minor injuries.

The crash is currently under investigation by local authorities.
