Mums in Liverpool were left in shock when plans to scarp a long-running children’s channel were revealed.

The BBC have announced plans to axe CBeebies – a channel with educational and entertaining programmes for children under the age of four – in a cost saving measure, news that was not well received by some.

In fact, ever since a petition was launched two days ago to save the Freeview channel, more than 28,000 people have signed it.

The petition, which has caused the hashtag #saveCBeebies to trend on Titter, claims CBeebies “plays a significant role in the lives of most parents” and provides “both education and entertainment”.

Popular shows on the channel like In The Night Garden and Mr Tumble which are favourites among young kids.

But it’s not just the children’s channel which is in trouble, BBC Director General Tony Hall has also said that CBBC, BBC News and BBC4 may also face the axe.

According to Hall, the changes could mean children’s TV will only be available on the iPlayer.
