From special car seats that will remind you if you’ve left your child behind, to a ‘smart soother’; there are so many amazing inventions being created every day to help parents in their most important role.

Now, a team at John Hopkins University is claiming that their new invention could potentially save your child’s life.

‘PoopMD’ is an app created to allow parents to assess the colour of their newborn’s 'number-two', so that they can determine if the child is at risk of bilary atresia.

Bilary Atresia is the term used to describe a blockage of bile flow which, if left untreated, can be life-threatening.

It is hoped that the app, which is available on GooglePlay and iTunes, will go a long way towards helping parents identify the presence of paediatric liver disease.

How PoopMD works is; a parent takes a photo of their child’s stool and the in-built technology on the app will instantly analyse it. It will also store your baby’s results for future reference and will email your GP if there is any need for a consultation.

In an age where phones and tablets are almost permanent features in our hands, this can only help out mums and dads.
