Our newsfeeds are regularly filled with photos of loved ones and friends sharing selfies of themselves with their little ones, but thanks to a new invention, babies may soon be snapping selfies all on their own.

A design graduate has created an Internet-connected mobile for babies’ cribs which allows them to take and share photos and videos at the simple touch of a plush button.

Laura Cornet’s invention contains a motion-sensitive camera designed to hang on the side of the crib, with soft versions of social media icons hanging down for Internet sharing.

The Design Academy Eindhoven graduate said that her inspiration for the novel invention came from the increasing number of photos of babies, as young as newborns, emerging online.

Cornet said that she has grown concerned by the growing trend, and wanted to stir debate by putting the control of posting these photos in the babies’ hands.

“I thought it was weird to be involved in the life of someone, who doesn’t even know that I have seen everything in his life already,” she told blog Dezeen, adding, “And the baby couldn’t make a choice to maybe not show me.”

Laura’s invention certainly raises questions about children's activity on social media. What are your thoughts?
