There have been a number of stories about the devastation caused to families after little ones were left inside hot cars, but this could potentially become a thing of the past, thanks to a group of clever students.

Having been deeply affected by the stories they heard in the news, the US-based students decided to create a car seat accessory that would prevent injuries and deaths occurring when children are accidentally left behind in a car.

The enterprising group went on to invent Infant SOS, a system that will not only alert parents when their child is locked into their car, but will also cool them down in high temperatures.

An accessory that fits around any car seat, Infant SOS is designed to alert the parent when their little one is in danger. The system activates as soon as the car temperature rises to a certain level, and an LED light will flash, prompting an alarm to go off.

If the parent is not back within five minutes to deactivate the alarm, a text message will automatically be sent to alert them. However, if the parent is not back to deactivate the system within 15 minutes, a further text will be sent to a secondary source, and so on until someone comes to help the child.

In the scenario where no one comes back to help the child, and the temperature continues to rise, a built-in cooling system will activate to absorb the heat and regulate the temperature in the vehicle.
