Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban are one of those couples that seem to get stronger as time goes by.

And that is no easy feat in Hollywood.

The pair, who have recently celebrated 12 years of marriage, are quite open about their relationship on social media and they regularly engage in PDA on the red carpet.

So what is their secret to a successful marriage after over a decade together?

Nicole explains that they have one, non-negotiable rule.

"We've never texted," she told Parade. "That is so not our relationship, which is interesting right? We call."

It sounds pretty simple but think about it: how often do you throw your partner a quick text because it's easier than going through the whole rigmarole of a phone call?

Nicole explained why it worked for them when she said, "we just do voice to voice or skin to skin, as we always say. We talk all the time and we FaceTime. I feel like texting can be misrepresentative at times.''

While this may sound very sweet, it actually all started out of circumstance.

Back when they first got together, Nicole didn't really know how to text!

"The reason it started at the beginning was because I didn't know how to text [laughs] and it just kind of worked for us. So now we don't."

So apart from texting, does she have any other pearls of wisdom for longevity?

''Not having secrets,'' she says. ''We like spending time together. We’ll get on planes and fly overnight rather than have a night apart. We will do anything to make it work.''
