Every now and again, a report will come along that just completely charms us – and that of Linda and Magnus Taule’s recent discovery in Norway is such a story.

The Norwegian mother-son duo were on a hike in the mountains recently when they found a balloon tangled in a tree. Believing it to be rubbish, they took it down – only to discover a note urging the finder to get in touch to claim a series of prizes.

According to the Irish Examiner, the helium balloon was one of a bunch that had been released by Corkwoman Catherine Crowley six months ago, from Dunmanway.

The treats in store for the balloon’s finder included: a stay for two in a local B&B; chocolates; a health shop hamper; a bottle of wine; lunch for two in Marnie’s Restaurant; a bottle of champagne; and a wash, cut and shave from the local barbers.

An excited Linda got in touch with Catherine, and her family were invited over to Cork to claim their prizes by the delighted Dunmanway native.

Although the Taule family have said they are unable to afford the trip this year, a host of people have come forward and offered to sponsor the family on the visit.

Let’s hope that the Taules make it over – we’ll keep you updated!
