More than three quarters of parents said money was the reason they decided against having more children.

A recent study found that 77 percent of parents wanted to have big families but felt that their financial situation prevented them from being able to do it.

The study done by Laya Healthcare spoke to 1,000 mums and dads in Ireland and found that a third of them planned on having big families.

However, one in five said that they changed their mind because “only rich people can afford to have big families”.

The study also found that Irish parents will fork out a whopping €1.1 billion on entertaining their children this year with the average household spending averaging at €1,319.

The study also asked parents to name their favourite celebrity families and topping the poll with 44 percent was Jamie and Jools Oliver and their five children.

Following closely was the fictional TV family The Waltons and in third David, Victoria and the four Beckham children.
