Operation Transformation leader Clare Scanlan opened up about the death of her 15-year-old son on last night’s episode of the hit TV show.

Speaking of the utter devastation of losing Darra to Sudden Adult Death Syndrome four years ago , the mum-of-three said that she has been existing rather than actually living since his passing.

The Limerick leader, who is originally from Cork, was in tears as she spoke of the day she went into his room to wake him only to realise he had passed away in his sleep.

“There’s bits of me still there. I had him when I was only 19 so we were great buddies and I suppose he was everything.”

Talking about the impact his death had on her life, Clare admitted to the Limerick Leader that her priorities changed, especially when it came to her weight.

“I threw in the towel. I totally gave up. I don’t think I will ever get over Darragh’s loss, but I have two other children. They need a mom too. Initially, I was doing it for them. Now I feel it is for myself.”

By opening up about her son, the 39-year-old hopes that it is the first step to getting her life back on track and learning to deal with his death.

What an incredibly brave woman.
