Families have turned to social media this morning, in a desperate attempt to make contact with loved ones who have not been in touch since last night's terror attack in London Bridge.

According to reports, seven people are dead and at least 48 others injured, after three men drove a white van into pedestrians, then jumped out and began stabbing people at random.

The suspected terrorists are said to have been armed with 12-inch knives, and attacked members of the public along Borough High Street.

Police arrived on the scene within minutes, with the bomb squad deployed and boats present on the Thames.

A series of tweets from the London Metropolitan Police urged people in the area to be vigilant: "You must: Run to a place of safety...If there is nowhere to go, then hide. Turn your phone to silent and turn off vibrate. Barricade yourself in, if you can. Tell the police by calling 999 when it is safe to do so."

The three men carrying out the attacks are reported to have been shot dead at the scene, while dozens of the injured were rushed to hospitals throughout the city.

While police and the emergency services dealt with the frightening incident, Facebook helped families to keep track of their loved ones, by launching a Safety Check feature. This enabled people in the area to mark themselves as 'safe', while their loved ones were able to track their status.

Sadly, just as with the Manchester Arena tragedy of a fortnight ago, people have been turning to social media over the past 12 hours to try and track down their loved ones who have yet to make contact.

Tijen Mustafa is one such relative, who has been desperately trying to make contact with her niece, Asya.

Posting a picture of Asya, Tijen wrote: "Asya, my niece, was due home at 9pm. We are unable to get contact with her. Please share and help us find her...We live in London Bridge."

As of this morning, Tijen said there had been no word from Asya, and the family is understandably 'going out of their minds with worry'.

Loved ones have also launched a search for a journalist named Geoff Ho, who is reported to have been stabbed in the incident.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this shocking tragedy.
