A father, who was devastated to learn his son was humiliated in front of a queue of cinema goers yesterday. has taken to social media to air his views and slam the cinema in question.

Using his Facebook page as a platform, Bryan Keelan took aim at a cinema in Drogheda, Co Louth and criticised staff members for their lack of compassion when serving his son, Bryan, yesterday.

According to the outraged Bryan Snr, his child, who was recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, was queuing for a screening of Antman with his friend, Sam, and Sam's mother, Jean, when a staff member noticed Bryan was clutching a bottle of water which had not been purchased on the premises.

In addition to learning that nine-year-old Bryan suffered from diabetes and would require water throughout the film, the staff member was then shown Bryan's medical armband - none of which had any bearing on her subsequent decision.

In front of a crowd of people, the staff member reportedly removed the bottle of water from Bryan's hands and insisted that should he need water, the cinema would be happy to sell him a bottle.

Devastated his son was so publicly humiliated, Bryan informed Facebook followers that he later approached his child in an effort to discuss the day's events.

Recalling the conversation which took place, Bryan wrote: "We sat him down and asked him what had happened but when he started to tell us he burst out crying and got so upset because he thought he had done something."

Disgusted that their child was treated with such disdain, Bryan's mother reportedly contacted the cinema and spoke with a manager who informed her that, regardless of a customer's medical condition, outside purchases are not permitted within the cinema.

Furious by the cinema's response to their complaint, Bryan asked "Why was my son singled out when clearly people ahead of him and behind him were openly bringing in there own sweets, popcorn and drinks from shops outside of the cinema and all he wanted to bring was his small bottle of water just in case he needed it?"

Outraged on behalf of his son, Bryan lamented the cinema's handling of the matter, writing: "Bryan was so excited to be heading to the cinema purely because with his condition he doesn't get other treats like sweets, crisps, soft drinks."

According to reports, the cinema in question has yet to make a public comment on the matter.
