It has been revealed that over 3 million people are registered to vote in the upcoming abortion referendum

It is understood that twice as many new voters will take to the polling stations compared to the marriage referendum in 2015.

Of the 3 million registered voters, 125,000 are young people, according to the National Youth Council of Ireland.

James Doorley, who is the deputy director of the National Youth Council of Ireland stated: "It is really heartening that so many young people responded to the call by NYCI and others and took the opportunity to register at events organised by the Union of Students Ireland, SpunOut, individual student unions and community groups in recent weeks to ensure they had the right to vote in the upcoming referendum.”
