Yesterday marked two very significant occasions in Britain: the Queen’s birthday celebrations, and Prince George’s first appearance on the famous Palace balcony.

The little Prince stole the show yesterday, waving to the crowd, dressed in the exact same outfit worn by dad William when he made his first major public appearance at the Palace, some 30 years ago.

The adorable photos of George beaming and waving happily, surrounded by the Royal family, went viral yesterday, and it appears that the momentous occasion left members of the Palace feeling rather nostalgic.

Having shared yesterday’s official photos of the tot – who turns two in July - officials went on to post a series of beautiful throwbacks of the mini-Royals at their first balcony appearances down through the years.

The British Monarchy’s official Twitter account posted the photos along with the caption: “Prince George is not the first young Royal to have made an appearance on the balcony after Trooping the Colour.”

As well as sharing black-and-white photos of a young Prince Charles and Princess Anne, the post featured an adorable shot of Princess Beatrice with mum Fergie, as well as a rather hilarious shot of a young Prince Harry sticking his tongue out from Princess Diana’s arms!

Twitter users appeared to be delighted with the photos, in particular the amusing shot of Harry! One commenter wrote: “Noticeably Prince Harry being the wild child that he is.”

What a gorgeous tribute to mark the occasion.
