We might think that we know our children pretty well and can tell when they’re fibbing but that may not be the case.

New research has shown that nearly 50pc of us believe our children when they’re lying to us.

46pc of parents have no idea when their child is telling a lie which the latest researchers saying that we may as well just guess.

Previous studies have concluded that children as young as two are learning to lie and this latest research just proves how good they’ve become at it.

45 experiments were conducted by the University of California on nearly 8,000 adults and 2,000 children with only 54pc of adults correctly knowing when their child was telling a lie.

“Adults view behaviours such as gaze aversion, fidgeting, nervousness, incoherent responses and facial expressions as being indicative of someone lying,” the team behind the study wrote in the journal Law and Human Behaviour.

“These often mean different things, particularly in young children.”

Basically, all the skills we’ve picked up over the years for telling if someone is being dishonest are a complete waste of time when it comes to our kids.
