The parents of a 10-year-old girl, who died after being involved in a traffic collision with a drunk driver, have made the decision to display the wreckage of their car in an effort to end drink driving.

With festive parties aplenty as we edge ever nearer December 25th, Evey Staley's parents are determined to raise awareness of the potential implications of driving while under the influence.

By agreeing to display the wreckage of their Subaru Justy in various areas around Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, Evey's heartbroken parents hope to prevent further family tragedies and ensure no other parents have to bury their child.

Opening up about the heartbreaking implications of their daughter's death, Evey's father explains: "We'll be like this for the rest of our lives. We cry every single day, we have done since the crash and I can't see that stopping."

Recalling the tragic event, Mr Staley, who sustained numerous injuries in the incident, said: "I must have slipped in and out of consciousness. I remember telling the guys that were tending to me to look after Evey first and get her sorted out."

Despite her father's protests, the outcome for Evey did not look good and upon being transferred to Southampton General Hospital by air ambulance, the little girl's doctors came to the heartbreaking realisation that their 10-year-old patient would not survive the trauma.

Recalling Evey's funeral, the little girl's uncle cast his mind back to an event no family should have to endure, saying: "The thing that I will never forget is the day of the funeral. Pushing my brother in his wheel chair up the church aisle to his ten year old daughter's funeral."

Commenting on the horrifying implications of drink driving, Hampshire Constabulary Road Safety Sergeant, Rob Heard said: "Our campaign asks 'Where will you end up tonight?' illustrating that you could end up in a mortuary having died in a road crash caused by drink-driving."

31-year-old Robert Blakely, who was found to be twice over the legal limit, was sentenced to ten years behind bars for causing the death of Evey Staley.
