The arrival of a beautiful bundle of joy is always an incredible and momentous affair, but one couple in the US are celebrating what has been deemed as an ‘extremely rare’ occurrence.

Antony Guzman and Miguel Cendejas have made headlines this week, after welcoming identical triplet daughters in the past week.

The tots – Sammie, Stella and Scarlet – were conceived naturally, without fertility treatment, with doctors at their local Kaiser hospital hailing the births as extremely rare – “roughly one in a million”, to be exact.

Adding to the uniqueness of the Cendejas girls’ birth story, the babies were carried full term, which is an amazing feat for their mother, given how more than 90% of triplets are born prematurely. All three of the girls are healthy and weighed in at well over five pounds.

While twins run on both sides of the family, the couple were completely taken aback to find out that they were expecting three little ones.

Casting her mind back to the moment she found out, on Christmas Eve last year, the proud new mum told local media: “We were happy and shocked.”

Congratulations to the family on their wonderful news.
