Well-known pizza restaurant, Pizza Hut, has issued a statement regarding an incident which took place in their Hartlepool branch on Friday evening.

Two-year-old Jacob Jenkins has been in a medically induced coma for three days after a family outing to the popular restaurant at the weekend.

Having choked on a grape while eating out with his parents, the toddler was 'brought back to life' by paramedics at the scene, but has unfortunately been in a coma since the incident took place.

The little boy's parents, David Jenkins and Abigail Wilson, have been quick to praise Pizza Hut staff who sprung into action when they realised their young patron was experiencing difficulty.

Speaking to the Hartlepool Mail, Abigail said: "I just want to say thank you to the staff in Pizza Hut in particular the young girl who was the first aider and the two men from Vue cinema, staff at the Great North Air Ambulance, the James Cook University Hospital and the RVI."

Speaking to the same newspaper, a spokesperson for the popular chain said: "We can confirm that there was a very serious incident involving a child at our Hartlepool Hut. Our thoughts and concern are with the child and his family at this very difficult time."

Opening up about her son's current condition, Abigail explained: "The grape was stuck and the only way of getting it out was through the paramedics using surgical scissors. Jacob is still critical and still can go either way, with little chance of pulling through."

Paying tribute to their little boy, she continued: "Anyone who knows Jacob knows he is a strong, determined, stubborn little boy and I hope he uses these qualities to pull through for us."

With incredible composure and admirable poise, Jacob's mum considered the undertaking that lies in front of her son, saying "On Thursday, Jacob will be given the biggest test he will ever get and that's to see if he can fight to wake up."

Determined to help Jacob's parents at this tremendously difficult time,  a family friend has established a GoFundMe page in order to support the family - an endeavour which has thus far raised over £4,000.

"This is a GoFundMe page set up for baby Jacob and his family who are going through unimaginable times every minute of every day. While baby Jacob is fighting for his life, his family will be at his bedside vigil 24/7," it explained.

The family have received 130 donations thus far.

Our thoughts are with the beautiful Jacob and his incredibly brave parents at this frightening time.
