Just yesterday, we shared one mother’s first-hand account of losing her child on his first day at day care, and now a chillingly similar story has hit the headlines around the world.

A police investigation is underway in Australia after a baby boy died in a family day care centre in Brisbane.

According to reports this morning, paramedics were called to the centre at about 10:40am, with the five-month-old child passing away shortly after.

While the child’s death hasn’t been ruled as suspicious, police were concerned by some of the scenes that greeted them at the centre; they have since launched an investigation into how the children there are cared for.

Describing the scene at the centre, Detective Inspector Steve Flori told local news: “When police were looking through the premises generally to check on its condition they found some locked doors, and when those doors have been opened, they’ve actually found children in some of the rooms.”

It has since emerged that the centre did not have official records for the six children found inside the building.

Even more devastating is the fact that the father of the child who passed away, Andy Chien, was only notified of his son’s death in the afternoon, hours after his death.

Our thoughts are with the family following their devastating loss.
