A hospital in Liverpool is set to carry out a routine review on patients cared for by a 28-year-old nurse who has been arrested on suspicion of murder. It is understood that the 28-year-old did her placement at the Liverpool Women’s NHS Trust.

They have said that there is no suggestion that any patients were harmed by the nurse during her placement, but they are cooperating with the police.

Earlier this week, police revealed that a female healthcare worker was arrested on suspicion of murdering eight babies and the attempted murder of six. She is currently in police custody.

According to The Guardian, the 28-year-old nurse has been working at the hospital since 2011.

Cheshire Police carried out the investigation when they were alerted of an increase in baby deaths between June 2015 and June 2016.

Lead investigator of the case, Paul Hughes stated that the investigation at The Countess of Chester Hospital is ongoing.

He explained that the case was launched in May 2017 and the team have been working tirelessly since it started.

"This is a highly complex and very sensitive investigation and, as you can appreciate, we need to ensure we do everything we possibly can to try to establish in detail what has led to these baby deaths and collapses.”

He added: "This is an extremely difficult time for all the families and it is important to remember that, at the heart of this, there are a number of bereaved families seeking answers as to what happened to their children."
