We all know how disconcerting it can be when we have to leave our child to their own devices when we're otherwise occupied while running an errand or tending to a civic duty.

While we may be confident in the fact they will come to no harm while waiting for mum or dad to complete their task, it can still weigh heavy on our minds as we consider their behaviour, source of stimulation and energy levels.

So, it's no surprise a father from the United States has wasted no time expressing his gratitude towards a police officer who kept his daughter entertained while he attended a court hearing recently.

Speaking to ABC News, 38-year-old Jose Moncayo paid tribute to officer Kevin Norris was was filmed babysitting Jose's two-year-old daughter, Abisai, on courthouse CCTV, saying: “I felt really blessed because God puts in your way people who you never thought would do what they do."

Acknowledging that his little girl appeared restless as she waited for her father's return, Jose insisted Officer Norris' gesture meant a lot to him, explaining: "I never told him to take care of my girl, he just did it. My wife is so happy. We hope to go back to visit the officer and thank him for all he did."

Responding to the publicity the footage has garnered, Officer Norris, who has been described as "a dad first and a police officer second"  dismissed praise, insisting: "It's a common, decent thing to do. I think anybody would've done it. Somebody needed help and I was there. Abisai was very active and very sweet."

Take a look at the footage which has clocked up 1.4 million views online.
