Pope Francis often speaks about modern family life, recently encouraging mothers to breastfeed their children in the Sistine Chapel, so it is not surprising he has something to say on kids and their use of technology.

The Pontiff, who has 19 million followers on Twitter, praised parents who only allowed their kids use the computer in a “common place”.

According to the Daily Mail, Pope Francis was aboard the papal plane when he discussed the dangers of the internet with journalists, saying: "There are parents that are very worried and don’t let their children have computers in their bedroom but in a common place. That was a good thing.”

He went to say that too much internet is “bad for the soul” and last year urged young people to stop wasting time on their smart phones, saying they “distract attention away from what is really important”.

However, while he is not against technology and understands that it is “a reality that we cannot ignore”, he wants people to reconsider how much time they spend on it.

"It is part of the progress of mankind. But when it takes away from communal and family life, social life, sport, art and we remain attached to our computers, this is a psychological illness. This is certain," he said.
