After such a shocking wave of devastating news after the Berkeley tragedy last week, thankfully some positive news was announced this morning.

Sean Fahey, one of those injured in the tragic accident last week, has reportedly been released from hospital and is said to be making his way home to Ireland. The student suffered two injuries in the collapse of the fourth floor balcony.

Responding after the news broke this morning, the Irish Consulate of Western US tweeted that Sean was returning home “in solidarity to be near his friends and their families in the difficult days ahead”.

It has also been reported that the six other students who were injured in the accident are making good progress, although they are not expected to be travelling back to Ireland just yet.

This morning’s announcements come just a day after the funerals of Ashley Donohue and Olivia Burke took place.

In an incredibly moving statement released by their families, they described their daughters as “two intelligent, talented and hard-working women”.

They added that they intended to “fight to make changes” so that no family would go through the pain that they have endured over the past week.

Our hearts and prayers go out to all those affected.
