Firefighters in Hampstead rescued 25 people, including a pregnant woman, from a blaze which broke out on Finchley Road in London this morning.

According to emerging reports, 23 people were led to safety from their homes while the pregnant woman and another individual were rescued from the roof of a building with the help of a turntable ladder.

While 12 people were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene, it is understood that a two-year-old child was transferred to hospital as a precaution.

Commenting on the fire which required the services of approximately 60 firefighters from West Hampstead, Kentish Town, Euston, Finchley, Hendon and Addington,stations, the London Fire Brigade took to Twitter to inform the public.
 


Alerting residents to the situation, they wrote: "We've currently got around 60 firefighters tackling a fire at a shop and flats on Finchley Road in #Hampstead"

Offering an insight into the developments at the scene, they then tweeted: "#Hampstead fire update: Crews have led 20 people to safety from flats above the shop & rescued two from the roof."

The cause of the blaze has yet to be established.
