At the end of every school year parents are frantically flitting around the shops trying to find an appropriate present for their kids’ teachers. Trying to buy a gift for someone who you don’t know very well can be difficult and in a desperate search to find something (or anything), teachers end up with an array of candles, soap sets, personalised mugs and boxes of chocolates.

We covered some ideas for inexpensive ideas for presents here. Here are a few more suggestions of personal, and importantly inexpensive, gifts that a teacher will love and remember:
  • Movie Hamper: Get a basket and fill it with treats like bags of sweets, microwave popcorn, a bottle of coke (or whatever fizzy drink takes your fancy) and pop in a voucher to the local cinema or a couple of DVDs that she might like (either movies she can watch with the class or chick-flicks she would enjoy herself at home.)
  • Book Voucher and Personalised Bookmarker: A book voucher for a few euro/pounds is a simple gift that the teacher is very likely to make use of and by getting your child to make a personalised bookmarker, you are making the gift a little more thoughtful and special.
  • Breakfast Basket: Fill a basket with lots of breakfast foods such as sausages, rashers, muffins, fruit, pancake mix, maple syrup, juice and coffee.
  • Framed Artwork: You could also take one of the paintings or drawings your child did at school and have it framed with a thank you message written by your child at the bottom. This will no doubt be proudly displayed by the teacher in the class room or in her home!
  • A personal note: To complete your gift, give with it a personal note written by your child. This is a lovely touch and the teacher is likely to keep to for years to come.
Every teacher will tell you that it’s not about the gift itself but it’s the appreciation that matters. So don’t worry about how much money you spend, just put a little bit of thought into the gift and your child’s teacher is sure to be delighted. Giving a small gift also demonstrates to your child that it's important to mark occasions in a thoughtful way and to be thoughtful for the things that matter in life.
