A family have expressed their gratitude to a pub patron who found the heart-breaking letter their little girl had penned to her late father.

Signed off simply with the little girl’s name, Summer, the letter was discovered in the carpark of the Prince of Wales pub in Somerset, England, and was handed in to the pub’s management.

Taking to social media to try and locate the owner of the letter, landlady Nicki Holroyd shared a screenshot, writing: “It’s the most heart-wrenching letter from a young girl who has written the most lovely letter to her dad who has died and is in heaven. Please help to try and trace her, we can never throw it away.”

In what has to be one of the most tear-jerking things we have ever seen, one section of the letter reads: “At night I sometimes look at the sky and make a wish, and I make the wish on the brightest star I see, and I believe it is you…Happy some days, sad the other, but right now I can feel you in my heart and you are always in my mind…”

Another heartbreaking sentence reads: “I just wish I could of [sic] said one last goodbye and one last hug before you took your journey to your new home in heaven.”

Thankfully, the family of the little girl managed to get in touch with Ms Holroyd, who later took to Twitter to share the good news.

“Thank you all for your help in finding the rightful owner of such a special letter. They are very grateful we didn’t just disregard it and are pleased to have it back,” she tweeted.
