Accidents can happen in the blink of an eye, especially where precious little ones are involved, and one Scottish family are no doubt heaving a major sigh of relief after their rail ordeal this week.

According to The Scotsman, a four-year-old boy who disembarked from a train without his family was rescued by a train driver, after running to catch up with his mum on board.

The poor little mite was reported to have been travelling on a Scotrail train from Wester Hailes Station to Kingsknow when he got off without his mother, yesterday afternoon.

When the train left without him, and he realised what had happened, he began to run after the train in a bid to catch up with it.

Luckily, train driver Martin McManus spotted the little boy crying on the tracks and came to his aid.

The tot was brought to off-duty police officers nearby, who oversaw his reunion with his mother, at Wester Hailes station.

Speaking to The Scotsman, heroic Mr McManus said: “He was very lucky…I saw the wee lad running along the track crying, so I stopped my train and made sure it was safe.”

Thank heavens there was a happy ending to this story.

SHARE to applaud this train driver’s heroic actions.
