JonBenét Ramsey was just six-years-old when she was bludgeoned and strangled to death on Christmas Day in 1996.

And as her 20th anniversary approaches, a series of documentaries have been aired: Dr Phil took part in a three-part series with the child beauty pageant star's brother, Burke, while her father, John, lends his firsthand experience of the murder in a documentary entitled: The Killing Of JonBenét: The Truth Uncovered.

However, the family were not impressed with a documentary aired by CBS recently, where it was claimed that Burke was most likely to blame for his sister’s death.

The family’s lawyer L. LinWood has now said that a defamation lawsuit will be filed against the broadcaster, according to the Mirror.

"I will be filing a lawsuit on behalf of Burke Ramsey," Mr LinWood explained.

"CBS' false and unprofessional attacks on this young man are disgusting and revolting."

In response to the suit, CBS has said they stand by their broadcast and “will do so in court.”

The Ramsey family always denied having anything to do with JonBenet’s death and were officially cleared in 2008, two years after Patsy Ramsey died following a 13-year battle with ovarian cancer.

JonBenét's killer has never been found and her murder remains one of the world’s most high-profile mysteries.
