As parents, we're often forced to punish our children in the hopes they won't make the same mistake again and while our kids' mistakes rarely effect other people, there are times when their actions impact the lives of others.

From childish jokes to teen angst, there are certain moments when we have to step in and help our child face the repercussions of their actions.

Take prank calls for instance: whether we like to admit it or not, making prank calls can be part and parcel of our childrens' lives.

While mostly harmless, there are some cases which cannot go unpunished as one young boy from the States recently discovered.

Having been coerced by friends into making a prank 911 call, one young boy soon learned the error of his ways when he was forced to write an apology letter by his outraged parents.

Facing up to his responsibilities, the 6th grader submitted the note in person and assured emergency dispatchers he was truly sorry for his actions.

Acknowledging that he made a mistake, the middle school student wrote: "I know there will be consequences, and I will not complain about them. I am sorry for what I did and I hope you can forgive me.”

Admitting that he should have considered the implications before making the call, he went on to say: "I know this was stupid but I was not listening to myself but I knew it was wrong."

Hoping to turn the situation into a positive experience, staff at the Savannah- Chatham 911 centre gave the remorseful young student a tour of the office and accepted his apology.

Despite his obvious remorse, this is one child who's due to be grounded for quite some time!
